This is an update of the current situation confined to the local areas of Theldeniya and Digana, in the Kandy district.
This is an isolated incident which took place in Theldeniya area on 22nd Nov 2018 (20kms away from Kandy), where two drivers of a Truck and Three-Wheeler got into a fight and the truck driver was hospitalized for a major head injury.
On 5th Nov 2018 the injured driver succumbs to his injuries and passed away at the Hospital. The deceased was a Singhalese Buddhist, while the accused other driver was a Muslim.
Some mourners who attended this funeral acted angrily and sparked violence in the local area. Later that evening the police imposed local curfew to curb the situation, which is still in effect to calm the situation.
There is no known Danger to any Tourist as the government has assured that no tourist will be affected by the local situation in the Kandy region.
There is no religious disputes in Sri Lanka and we would like to advise clients to avoid listening to negative propaganda which is now known to be circulated by individuals who are trying to tarnish reputation of Sri Lanka as a peaceful destination.
